What Is SharePoint ?
SharePoint combines various functions which are traditionally found in separate applications: intranet, extranet, content management, document management, enterprise social networking, enterprise search, business intelligence, workflow management, web content management, and an enterprise application store.
SharePoint servers have traditionally been deployed for internal use in mid-size businesses and large departments.
The introduction of SharePoint as a service offerings, however, has led to increased usage of SharePoint in smaller organizations. The most notable of these being Microsoft’s Office 365.
Why SharePoint?
- Reduce cost by achieving access to all the functionality provided in a single platform.
- Reduce risk with a platform to which Microsoft is committed.
- Available both on-premises and in the cloud.
